PM Modi discusses Operation Sindoor in Australia: “Explosions hit terrorist camps, echoes were heard across the world”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about Operation Sindoor at a community event in Australia on Thursday, saying it was a “demonstration” of India’s defense capabilities.
Speaking at a diaspora event with his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister Modi said the world was now witnessing the credibility of India’s defense platforms.
“The world is witnessing the capability and credibility of India’s defense platforms. You must have seen a demonstration of this during Operation Sindoor. The blasts took place in terrorist hideouts, but their echoes were heard across the world,” he said at the event in Melbourne.
“Did this massive attack on terrorist hideouts fill you with pride, or not?” » asked Prime Minister Modi.
Prime Minister Modi said that during his 12 years in office, Make in India has become a “global brand”.
“Over the last 12 years, ‘Make in India’ has become a global brand. Our mobile phones and electronic devices have reached markets across the world. Our automobiles and pharmaceuticals have expanded their global footprint,” he said.
Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor was a rapid, multi-domain military and diplomatic campaign executed by India between May 6 and 10, 2025. It was launched in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir approximately two weeks earlier, in which a group of terrorists killed 26 innocent people, including 25 Indian nationals.
The first strikes on May 7 strictly targeted terrorist training camps belonging to groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Pakistan, with the Indian army claiming to have killed more than 100 terrorists in these strikes.
Following India’s targeted action, Pakistan retaliated from May 7 to 10 by launching coordinated drone, missile and artillery strikes targeting more than a dozen Indian military installations and civilian areas. India deployed its integrated UAS network and ground-based advanced air defenses (GBAD), including the indigenous Akashteer system, to successfully intercept and blunt hundreds of Pakistani drones and missiles.
In a calculated counter-response, the Indian Air Force (IAF) executed localized precision strikes to dismantle the specific Pakistani air defense systems and military airfields that enabled the aggression.
India targeted 11 Pakistani airbases, including heavy strategic strikes on Nur Khan and Rahimyar Khan airbases. The IAF evaded and jammed Pakistani air defenses provided by China, completing flights in just 23 minutes using Rafale jets.
Pakistan conceded the cessation of hostilities on May 10, 2025 following the heavy damage inflicted on its air infrastructure. A ceasefire agreement was announced in the evening of the same day.
