Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu discuss renewed Iranian conflict

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump on Thursday evening, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement Thursday evening, as part of ongoing coordination between the two countries.

Trump briefed Netanyahu on current US actions in the Gulf and US attacks on Iranian assets, the statement said, while Netanyahu warned Trump against approving the F-35 deal with Turkey.

Netanyahu also addressed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s harsh remarks against the existence of the State of Israel, as well as the need for security zones along Israel’s borders.

No further details of the phone call were shared.

Despite the phone call and the evolving situation, a White House official confirmed to Walla on Thursday that there are no plans at this time for the two leaders to meet.

A U.S. official said Thursday that Washington was still committed to finding a solution with Iran and that technical negotiations were continuing.

This conversation comes as the United States renews its strikes against Iran on Tuesday evening.

According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes came in response to Iran’s attempts “to impose high costs to target and attack commercial vessels crewed by innocent civilians in an international waterway.”

“For me, I think it’s over,” he said at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, in comments to the press.

Trump also said he believed the United States had “wasted a lot of time” negotiating with Iran and that he did not want to continue negotiations.
