ISLAMABAD: The National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned Noreen Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan, for “spreading false, offensive and inflammatory content on social media” aimed at defaming state institutions and spreading false narratives.

The notice, issued under Section 160 of the CrPC, directs him to appear in person at the NCCIA Cyber ​​Crime Reporting Center at G-13/3, Islamabad, on July 20 (tomorrow) at 12 noon.

While Noreen Niazi was specifically named in Investigation No. RE-2031/2026.

Under Section 174 of the Pakistan Penal Code, failure to comply with the notice to appear is a punishable offense, demonstrating the government’s determination to take action against individuals involved in spreading what it calls “false narratives” and inflammatory material on social media platforms.

Noreen sparked controversy with her recent remarks on India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israel, drawing strong reactions from political analysts and pundits in Pakistan.

“Experts said Noreen Niazi’s words, tone and thinking reflect the specific narrative of the PTI founder, which is focused solely on personal interests. They pointed out that the party founder, her sisters and her family may even put the integrity of the country at stake to achieve their personal interests,” a report said.

Critics have also warned that such statements could damage Pakistan’s image internationally. “This damning statement reflects the truth of the so-called narrative of the PTI and its founding leader that ‘this army is ours’,” they said. “They regretted that this misleading statement by Noreen Niazi reinforces the Indian narrative, which the Indian media will now use against Pakistan,” the report added.

The controversy has reignited debates over the role of political leaders and their families in shaping the discourse on Pakistan’s foreign policy and national security. While the clip continues to circulate online, PTI is yet to issue an official response to Noreen Khan’s remarks.

In a since-deleted excerpt from a podcast interview that surfaced on social media on Friday, Noreen Khan made surprising claims, suggesting that the Indian prime minister could have “fixed” Pakistan if he wanted to. She questioned why Modi had not acted, wondering if Israel was behind Pakistan’s affairs.

“If Modi wanted to, he would have fixed them in two minutes. Why did Modi stop? Was he afraid? It’s such a big country; just look at this country and Israel is behind (them),” she said. When the presenter asked if Israel was behind Pakistan, she replied that they needed to get Pakistan to recognize Israel.

Noreen also commented on Modi’s global stature, calling him a “superpower” and saying he would not give support to US President Donald Trump. “Modi will not give a boost to Trump, while Trump wants Modi to be under his command. Modi himself became a superpower by siding with Russia,” she added.

His remarks come months after his sister, Aleema Khan, claimed in May last year that the war between India and Pakistan was a “fixed match”.
