Hyd woman tortured in Muscat calls for help –

Today, a woman from Hyderabad landed in a similar situation in Muscat. She is tortured and subjected to physical violence. The victim is identified as 26-year-old Shabnam Begum.

Shabnam Begum, a resident of Pahadi Shareef area of ​​Hyderabad, traveled to Muscat, Oman, on March 26. A local recruitment agent had promised her a stable job as a housekeeper with an attractive monthly salary of 200 Omani riyals (around Rs 50,000).

However, the reality upon arrival in Muscat was very different. According to Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) leader Amjed Ullah Khan, who publicly shared his plea, Shabnam was forced into grueling working conditions.

Unable to withstand the continued abuse, Shabnam managed to escape her employer’s custody. Although she managed to contact the Indian embassy in Muscat, she remained stranded because its recruitment officers confiscated her passport.

In her self-recorded video call, a deeply distraught Shabnam revealed that she was forced to work 12-15 hours a day in several households. She claimed she was completely denied her salary for almost four months and was cut off from her family when her employers confiscated her phone for a month and a half.

Responding to the viral appeal, the Indian Embassy in Oman confirmed via social media that it had taken note of the matter and was taking up the situation at appropriate diplomatic levels to bring Shabnam home safely.
