Skyroot launch led by 28-year-olds, not a 56-year-old: PM Modi attacks Rahul Gandhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while celebrating the successful launch of a rocket by Hyderabad-based space start-up Skyroot Aerospace, saying the feat belonged to a team of young innovators with an average age of 28, “and not a young man of 56”.
In the customary speech ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, Prime Minister Modi hailed the country’s startup ecosystem and highlighted the recent Skyroot milestone, calling it a proud moment for India’s youth, while also urging the opposition to ensure a productive session.
“The youth of India has embarked on a new journey into space. I was told that the average age of the entire team working in the startup ‘Skyroot’ was only 28 years. Young people like these have achieved this feat. I am not talking about a 56-year-old,” he said.
Although he did not name Rahul Gandhi, the insult was apparently directed at the 56-year-old Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Elaborating on this achievement, the Prime Minister said: “Few countries in the world have witnessed such a private enterprise. Indian youth have embarked on a new journey into space.
The Prime Minister added that the past month had seen a series of steps that had improved India’s position both domestically and abroad.
“In just one month, the nation has achieved many milestones, a series of achievements that fill every citizen with pride. Be it on the national stage, on the international stage or now, even in space, these have been truly proud moments for India,” Modi said.
He added: “Very few countries in the world have this facility. This achievement is a testament to the dedication of Indian scientists, engineers, innovators, entrepreneurs and workers, all of whom live and work with a common goal for the nation.”
The Prime Minister also linked these achievements to the government’s reform agenda, saying the country’s young innovators benefited from an ecosystem created through sustained policy reforms.
“It is because of the country’s boarding of the Reform Express that India’s youth are able to display such courage and achieve success,” he said.
Listing recent advancements in infrastructure and technology, Modi said a huge oil refinery was recently dedicated to the nation in Rajasthan, while the country’s third semiconductor plant was also inaugurated. He added that India has introduced one of the most advanced green hydrogen trains in the world, with the most powerful engine and longest configuration of its kind.
The Prime Minister added that the economic performance reflected India’s resilience and ambition, adding that the monsoon session of Parliament began at a time when the country had gained momentum in all sectors.
