TBoriswave will benefit from indefinite leave. This is now almost certain and there is no point hoping that Labour’s latest round of psychodrama will somehow result in the national interest being put at stake.

Shabana Mahmood’s plans, still interior minister, were insufficient when they were first announced last November, but they would have bought the country time. Since then, they have been the subject of public consultation hijacked by community interest groups and total denigration by Tutor columnists who have clearly made a breakthrough.

The final position is that the Boriswaves will get a settlement within the current five-year time frame, but will not access welfare until several years later. Leaving aside the fact that this would still allow migrants to bring in family members, the seeds of future damaging chain migration flows, it is fanciful to think that this amendment will have a significant impact on the impending social bill.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has made clear his desire to “abolish” the no-take-up policy that restricts migrants’ access to welfare; he’s just not going to expand it to include ILR. Additionally, the facility puts migrants close to a British passport which they can obtain after just 12 months. By the time of the next general election, many Boriswave will be administratively as British as you or me and treated as such by the welfare state.

Was there really the possibility that a Labour-led Home Office, more concerned with Islamic staff networks and diversity programs, would fare differently in the face of Boriswave? Did they even try?

The Ministry of the Interior was recently forced to admit that the bill for the taxpayer for the establishment of Boriswave would run into billions, but the social and cultural costs of this hyper-massive migratory wave immediately became clear.

People were released from their homes after the lockdown and found their community transformed. The world has turned upside down; Ambridge-on-Indus. The new butcher only serves unstunned meat, the old bakery is an overstaffed vape shop or Kurdish hair salon, the candlestick maker is a rope-looking chicken coop.

Memorial benches in town squares are now stops for boxes from Deliveroo and Just Eats; modest terraced houses, once family homes, are now HMOs; primary school PTAs now look like the interpreters’ booth at the UN General Assembly, and good luck getting a same-day GP appointment

Octogenarians must ask their carers for a cup of tea in Pidgin English, pub regulars must explain to our new reception staff that it is not customary to serve Guinness in a flask of gin. No need to invest in NEET million when there is a skilled worker visa.

None of this is normal, and while many of these themes were already underway, they have entered warp speed since 2020.

The country can now say with confidence that it has tried Boriswave and we don’t like it, thank you very much. It is probably best that we do not continue down this path.

More than half of the voters assistance extending the waiting period before a migrant can apply for ILR. It is difficult to see what democratic measure exists to convey this message to the political class. The Labor Party’s internal debate on the issue shows that, despite spending hundreds of millions on translation services, they simply do not understand what the British public is telling them.

Boriswave cultists, Labor backbenchers for whom national destruction is a career-defining mission, tell us it is “unfair” and “un-British” (read: anti-Paddington) to change the rules, that we would be “breaking a promise” to those who arrived on temporary visas.

There is a level of fallacy here that was last seen during the concoction of the Windrush myth; the intended message is that Boriswave was nothing more than a selfless brigade of volunteers who, out of a simple sense of duty, left their own country to save Britain and keep the NHS afloat.

The reality is that third world migrants decided to come to Britain because we were a relatively wealthy European country that decided to offer cut-rate visas.

Visa application fees have been reduced to bargain prices, and the immigration health surcharge has been removed for no discernible reason. Migrants did not need to demonstrate proficiency in English or hold any qualifications. Sponsorships were available from permit holders, kebab boats and non-existent care homes, and migrants could bring with them a megabus of dependents: 297,069 health and care visa principal applicants brought with them 440,663 dependents. This flow, as well as those that preceded it, were the antithesis of the Mayflower; driven by ease and convenience, rather than drive and entrepreneurship.

Labor backbenchers tell us that ILR should be given to these individuals, not because they are economic dynamite, but because they would otherwise be struggling and therefore need access to our welfare state. This is nothing more than a call for the British foreign aid program to be extended to those who have managed to establish themselves in our country; it is the abandonment of a responsible policy disguised as humanist.

To put an end to this nonsense, it is up to center-right parties to send a very clear message to those currently on temporary visas and considering an ILR application leading to citizenship: you will not be allowed to stay.

The Reform Party estimates that Boriswave will cost the country hundreds of billions of pounds, the Conservative Party is making similar noises. Serious politics now demands that these centre-right parties express what the country thinks: that the settlement and, above all, naturalization, grants granted under this Labor government will be cancelled. These individuals will never stay. Thank you very much, but no thanks.
