Hayden Large went through an unlikely journey to join Iowa football
Iowa's offensive line has been crucial to Kaleb Johnson's success this year, punching holes and creating space for the defender. But we can't forget the full-back who plows forward with his head and puts his body on the line. For Iowa, that's Hayden Large, an aptly named role player for this Hawkeye offense. It's almost a miracle he's playing football at all, let alone paving the way for one of the best offenses in the country. Large suffered an unusually severe torn hamstring last in high school, requiring surgery and being confined to bed for 35 days. . Doctors told him he would probably never play football again. “I said, 'I'm going to do this,'” Large said. “And I'm going to do this for everyone, and I had a lot of kids looking up to me, so I couldn't let them down.” His hard work has paid off. Large spent more than two years at Dordt University in Sioux Center before Hawkeyes special teams coach LeVar Woods discovered the bulky fullback.
