Oliverio scores, Troisi Blanks Molloy as SCSU field hockey wins 1-0
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut hockey earned its first Northeast-10 Conference win of the season, 1-0, against Molloy at Jess Dow Field. With the win, the Owls improved to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the NE10, while Molloy fell to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Mia Oliverio (North Branford, Conn.) scored the only goal of the game for the Owls with just under five minutes remaining in the first quarter. Taylor Leckey handled the ball on the touchline and moved towards the center of the pitch to Fresham Lindsey Onofrio. Onofrio broke through Molloy's defense and tapped a pass to the right, where Olivero one-timed a shot past the Lions keeper to put the Owls on the board.
Lyndsay Troisi got her first career start for the Owls and then picked up her first career win with a four-save shutout in the cage. In her last four games, Troisi is 1-1 with a 1.21 goals-against average and an .843 save percentage.For Oliverio it was her first career goal and her third point of the season, while Onofrio got her first career assist.
Southern returns to action on Friday, October 4 when it hosts Saint Michael's for an NE10 match at 3:30pm at Jess Dow Field.
