Three Hawks named to the Atlantic 10 Men’s Tennis All-Conference First Team
WASHINGTON – Three Saint Joseph’s men’s tennis student-athletes have been named to the Atlantic 10 Men’s Tennis All-Conference First Team, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. Juniors Othman Bezzaz And Ernesto Ruy and sophomores Santiago Valley were named among the league’s top players, while Bezzaz was also named to the All-Academic Team.
Bezzaz, who hails from Casablanca, Morocco, had the second-most singles wins with 15 as the Hawks earned the runner-up spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship and reached the semifinals. He scored an 8-2 in the fourth flight in singles, while seeing action in each of the top three flights, and was also tied for the team lead with 18 wins in doubles.
Born in Atizapan de Zaragoza, Mexico, Ruy teamed with Bezzaz to reach a #70 national doubles ranking in the fall as the duo combined for 17 wins; Ruy tied Bezzaz for the team lead with 18 overall doubles victories. On the singles side, his 16 wins led the team, as did his 34 combined wins in both disciplines.
Valle recorded 10 wins over the top two singles flights this season, on his way to 14 singles victories for the year. The product of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, also saw time on each of the top two doubles flights, finishing fourth on the team in both singles and doubles victories.
