Cougars receiver Cody Hagen retires from football – Deseret News
BYU loses a contributor in its wide receiver room.
Cody Hagen is medically retiring from football, according to reports from multiple media outlets that have since been confirmed by both BYU and Hagen himself.
Hagen has been plagued by injuries in recent years, including a torn PCL last December that he played through, according to the Salt Lake Grandstand.
In two seasons with the Cougars, Hagen caught 15 passes for 126 yards, adding another 93 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns on the ground.
He ran for a 57-yard score in BYU’s 2025 opener against Portland State, and his 32-yard end zone trip in Colorado put the Cougars ahead for good in an eventual 24-21 victory.
The speedster from Draper was rated as a 4-star prospect by 247 Sportsranked as the No. 5 recruit in the state of Utah and No. 55 receiver nationally for the class of 2022.
During his career at Corner Canyon High, Hagen recorded 201 receptions for 3,927 yards and 51 touchdowns, helping the Chargers win three state championships and earn Utah Gatorade Player of the Year honors as a senior. He also excelled in track and field, winning four individual state titles.
Hagen, who recently participated in spring training with the Cougars and was in his junior competitive season, will remain a student at BYU, according to him. KSL Sports.
Given Hagen’s departure, along with top 2025 receivers Parker Kingston and Chase Roberts leaving the program, BYU will now lean on its remaining corps of receivers Jojo Phillips, Tiger Bachmeier, Reggie Frischknecht, Kyler Kasper and Tei Nacua, as well as new tight ends Walker Lyons and Roger Saleapaga.
