Flavio Cobolli became a Grand Slam semi-finalist for the first time as the Italian 10th seed recovered superbly from a set and breakdown to beat fourth seed Félix Auger-Aliassime 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-finals of the French Open.

Despite being only 25, Auger-Aliassime has been around for a long time, but he is still trying to take the next step and compete for the majors.
Auger-Aliassime started well, serving brilliantly and dominating the baseline with his forehand to post a 6-4, 3-1 lead. The match started with an open roof in the same brutally windy conditions that had felled Aryna Sabalenka hours earlier, but the roof was closed after the first set. Auger-Aliassime is one of the best players indoors and these conditions should have suited him well, but one loose service game at 3-1 was enough to shift the momentum in Cobolli’s favor.
From that early deficit, Cobolli neutralized the Canadian’s weapons, put him in his backhand corner, made big returns and narrowed the playing field with his superior defensive skills. His efforts put him one win away from a Grand Slam final.
