The Ohio State football program is on the cusp of recruiting. In late June, the Buckeyes were able to land five-star defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou. He is someone who had been pursuing Larry Johnson for quite some time.

On the first day of July, Ohio State Buckeyes landed five-star receiver Jett Harrison for the 2028 recruiting class. He is the younger brother of Marvin Harrison Jr., so he was expected to commit. Now Ohio State is trying to land another five-star recruit in the class of 2027.

David Gabriel Georges is the recruit the Buckeyes have spent the most time on this cycle. The five-star running back is listed as the nation’s second-best running back recruit in this class. Ohio State is battling Tennessee to land him. It reportedly won’t be cheap.

Apparently that hasn’t deterred the Buckeyes as much as it has in recent years. They seem to be in the thick of things.

There will be a number that does not exceed the state of Ohio. Ryan Day is steadfast in his belief that he would rather pay for proven production in the Transfer Portal than for expensive recruits. He’s come away from that a little bit this year with some of the guys they’ve been able to bring in.

Ohio State has several five-star recruits they are looking to pay in this cycle. The Volunteers may be willing to pay DDG more, but he seems to really value what the Buckeyes can give him in terms of development and opportunity.

Ohio State fans should still have faith in David Gabriel Georges

Despite the massive price tag, Buckeyes fans should still have confidence in DDG’s choice to play in Columbus next season. If he does, he would be the top prospect to take Ohio State out of high school since 2021, when TreVeyon Henderson committed.

Money is one thing, but having the opportunity to win a national championship is another thing entirely. That’s something Gabriel Georges would get in Columbus. He wouldn’t have a chance to do that in Knoxville. Tennessee hasn’t won anything of significance in nearly thirty years.

If Gabriel Georges is only concerned about how much money he’s going to make in college, then he’s not a fit for Ohio State anyway. He’ll commit in three weeks, so Ohio State has plenty of time to continue convincing him that Columbus is where he should spend his collegiate years.

It will be a battle between these two programs. If Ohio State doesn’t land him, it would be a crushing blow considering how much time and resources they used in his recruitment.
