2026 hockey schedule released, Vikes seeks eighth straight conference crown
Victoria – Canada West’s trio of hockey programs can now be on the agenda as the 2026 conference schedule has been revealed.
When the action begins on September 12, Calgary and UBC will once again attempt to dethrone the Victoria Vikes, who enter the season as seven-time defending conference champions. The Vikes open their season on the road before playing back-to-back weekends at home, Sept. 26-27 against UBC and Oct. 3-4 against Calgary.
The Vikes claimed the Donna Hunt Memorial Trophy for the 26th time in 2025. The conference title race came down to the final game of the regular season, with UBC needing a win to capture its first championship since 2017. The Thunderbirds had a two-goal lead and looked set for victory before Victoria rallied with a pair of second-half goals to secure a crucial draw that allowed them to retain the conference crown.
Each team will play eight regular season games and face each opponent four times, twice at home and twice on the road. The season opens with back-to-back weekends on the road for the Vikes, while the regular season concludes with a potentially pivotal series between UBC and Victoria on Oct. 24-25 in Vancouver.
Since there is no postseason tournament in hockey, every regular season game is of great importance. The regular season champion will receive the Donna Hunt Memorial Trophy and earn Canada West’s spot in the Field Hockey Canada U SPORTS National Championship.
