Salem Hills star Peyton Higginson is committed to BYU football


SALEM – BYU football continues to contribute to the 2027 recruiting class.

The latest addition comes from standout athlete Peyton Higginson.

On Monday, Higginson, a three-star prospect from Salem Hills High School, announced his commitment to BYU.

Higginson chose BYU over finalists Michigan and Utah State, two programs with coaching staffs that have strong ties to the Beehive State.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Higginson is a two-way athlete with a 77-inch wingspan. Higginson plays safety and wide receiver, and he is rated as the 90th overall athlete in the nation for the class of 2027 by the 247Sports Composite.

During his varsity career, Higginson has totaled 107 tackles and five interceptions on defense. On the offensive side, he has totaled 1,235 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in his prep career, while also adding 295 yards in punt returns.

Higginson’s athleticism was on display when he was on Team Puka, named after former BYU star Puka Nacua, in the OT7 league last spring, setting a record for most pick-sixes by one player with two.

After BYU’s new defensive staff came together under freshman DC Kelly Poppinga, Higginson was a candidate Poppinga and safeties coach Demario Warren prioritized in the 2027 cycle. They made early home visits last winter during the initial contact period after being hired.

The addition of Higginson brings BYU’s 2027 recruiting class to 13 commits. He is the fifth recruit since BYU’s busy June 19 official visit weekend to commit to the Cougars, joining Jaxson Rex, Kamoni Adams, Kyle Nabrotzky and Uhila Wolfgramm.
