Relativity Space hired the first Vice President of Software Engineering and took over Scott Van Vliet, a former Microsoft Vice President of Enterprises. The company said this is a significant investment in the future of software-driven manufacturing platforms.

Van Vliet leads an integrated software and layered modeling team. He integrates data collection, correlation, machine learning, visualization, and workflow tools to enable advances in Relativitys Stargate printers, production plants, testing and launch infrastructure, and overall rocket development for the Relativitys Factory operating system. According to the theory of relativity, Van Vliet oversees more than 150 employees today and plans to double the team in 2022. The company said software is an important and growing segment of its talent.
