Eric Schmidt, who heads the US government’s initiative to integrate AI into national security, warned on Monday that the EU’s AI transparency requirements are “very harmful to Europe.”

Schmidt spoke at POLITICO’s AI Summit, criticizing the EU’s AI bill requirements for algorithm transparency. “This is just a suggestion, but adopting it unchanged would be a huge setback for Europe,” said Schmidt, chairman of the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence (NSCAI) and former Google CEO.
