Earthquakes led by Laranja develop talent for the college

The Ceres Earthquakes FC Elite girls’ soccer team, founded by Miguel LaRanaga, has developed talent at the university level.

“The ultimate goal is for girls to go to play soccer in college, and if that comes with a partial or full scholarship, that makes it even better. We talk about it all the time,” said LaRanaga, 48.

Central Valley High School graduates Jocelyn Lopez and Abigail Martinez fit in with the women’s football program in Stanislaus last season.

Iris Laranaga, a high school graduate in Ceres, was also a team member.

Lopez started as a full back and Martinez contributed to the defensive midfield as the warriors set a record 15-6-0 and advanced to the NCAA Division-II championship.

Lopez’s outstanding defense practice has earned her a place in the California Team Sports Team’s second team.

Senior high school graduate Ceres Maria Treveno started in the left defender as a freshman on the women’s soccer team at the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 2019.

The attackers gathered the general record 6-6-2, placed fourth in the ranking of the North Conference Athletics Collegium (9-2-1) and advanced to the semi-finals of the NACC Championship.

“I played with Miguel for eight years,” Trevino said. “One of the main things I learned from him was dissatisfaction with the player you are and continuing to push for a better player.”

Seniors from Ceres High Miranda Larranaga and Siriana Gudino received a scholarship to Stanislaus University and Life Pacific University, respectively.

Laranaga (midfielder) and Godino (goalkeeper) played major roles while lifting the Bulldogs to new heights last winter.

Ceres Hay achieved the best record in the program 18-1-1, and progressed to the quarter-finals of the qualifications section Sach Joaquin Section III and won the title of the Western Sports Conference (13-1-1).

Gudino was chosen on the WAC First team.

Laranja got honors from the second team.

“I always call him (Miguel) my second father,” said Godino, who started playing football with Laranaga at the age of nine. “He taught me more than game skills. He taught me life lessons as well.”

Led by Lopez, Martinez, Trevino, Gudino, Edith Larranaga and Miranda Larranaga, the Earthquakes FC Elite under-18 team climbed to first place in the national ranking gotsoccer.com in July of 2019.

“There were thousands of teams and we were the best,” said Miguel Laranaga. “We will always remember that.”

Ceres won all four of his matches on his way to claiming the Super 2 Group Championship at Pleasanton RAGE College Showcase on July 21. Earthquakes compete in section 19 and below.

Earthquakes collected one win and two losers in Sagittarius D at the San Diego Surfing Cup from July 27 to 29.

“The commitment of the players and parents is amazing,” said Miguel Laranga. They have done this for many years. This is what made the team so strong. “

“You had to come and start working to get play time,” said Trevino. “Chemistry was one of the big things that made us stronger as a team. We were all like sisters. (Miguel) was a father figure for everyone on the team. He was determined to push us and help us succeed even with school. He was very supportive.”

“We weren’t the best when we first started,” Godino said. “We have worked hard for our places now. Our coaches (Laranaga, Adam Bolanos and Humberto Luna) helped implicitly the players that we are today.”

“I am very proud of all the girls,” said Miguel Laranaga. They have pledged to be part of the (Earthquake) program for years. They had to give away a lot of things – birthdays and other big events. It changed their lives. Were it not for COVID-19, we will continue playing. “

Earthquakes usually compete throughout the year.

They play in five to eight tournaments, including the Country Cup, during the season.

Miguel LaRanaga said: “You give up a lot of your personal life to be there because you love her so much. The team becomes part of your family. Spends a lot of time together. You don’t have many breaks This is the biggest break you’ve got in the past 10 to 12 years. Lots of work in my house – landscapes, floors, table tops. My wife is happy. “
