Pompey asked why he wanted the inspector general to fire him
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo advocated firing his department’s inspector general, saying he “should have done so recently,” but explained to President Donald Trump the reasoning he recommended removing Steve Linick from his job.
When he was pressured to shoot the independent guard, Pompey refused to do so, saying he would “share it with the right people.” He also said he blamed Linick for hastily probing the probes of some of his activities and that the use of the office was “completely false”.
