Starting guard Miller tests positive for COVID-19, vs. Portland

Minnesota United’s main guard Tyler Miller tweeted before the first-round game on Sunday that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and would not play in the Portland game.

Miller described himself as “disturbed not to be with the boys in Portland but all confidence in their ability to get the job done, and I’ll be back as soon as possible.”

Dane St. Clair’s game will start at 4:30 p.m. CST on ESPN.

Miller has started every game for the Loons since he was listed 11 after the team started the season 0-4.

Clair last started a game in a loss on May 8 in Colorado Rapids, but he has been the starting guard for the past four months, including a playoff run to the Western Conference final, after Miller underwent surgery on his hips in August.

Miller replaced St Clair as a starter of the season with a 1-0 win over Vancouver on May 12 at Allianz Field. His 11 matches this season are his personal best and equal the record with Vito Mannone.
