Hong Kong: China warns of US Human Rights and Democracy Act – BBC News

China has warned that the US could take “firm countermeasures” if Washington continues to show support for pro-democracy demonstrators in Hong Kong.

The warning came after U.S. President Donald Trump signed the Human Rights and Democracy Act.

The stock promises an annual review to see if Hong Kong has enough autonomy to justify its special status with the US.

Trump is currently seeking an agreement in China to end the trade war between the two countries.

“The US has been dismissing the facts and distorting the truth,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

“They raped the facilities that protected the violent criminals who protected the building, lit a fire, whitewashed the attacks of the innocent, trampled on the rule of law and endangered the social order.”

The ministry threatened “countermeasures” if the US “went the wrong way.”
