The restoration of the Trinity Church has been completed “about to end” due to funding problems

The last stage of the restoration of a church listed in the millions of dollars on the Heritage List was not completed due to funding issues.

Trinity Collegiate Church, a Class 1 heritage building on the corner of Manchester Worcester streets in the center of Christchurch, has been undergoing renovations after it was badly damaged in the February 2011 earthquake.

The final work “is not progressing at all at this time,” said Mrs. Anna Creighton, head of the Christchurch Heritage Fund, which owns the building.

She said, “The lack of funding will be a reason.” She was not sure what would happen until the secretariat held another board meeting.

This corner of the Trinity Church is not over. There is no timetable for the time when work will take place.

Creighton said that the final work included the completion of windows, doors and landscapes.

The church still clearly lacks stone works and a door on the opposite side of Worcester St, as well as two large and prominent circular windows. There is still a wall surrounding the building.

The building has been offered for sale or rent since last year, along with the adjacent Chand building. Both buildings are connected to a newly built hallway.
