Light earthquake strikes Kutch in Gujarat

The district administration stated that there were no injuries or property damage, the tremor was registered at 7.50 am. The epicenter of the earthquake was 19 kilometers southwest of Rabar in the region

A small earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale was felt in Kutch district of Gujarat state on Tuesday morning, officials said. The district administration said there were no injuries or property damage.

The earthquake was registered at 7.50 am, the Gandhinagar Seismic Research Institute said, with its epicenter 19 km west-southwest of Rabar in the region.

The Intelligence and Security Service said it was located at a depth of 21.7 km.

In the past two weeks, three tremors of magnitude 3.4 have been recorded in the area located in a “extremely dangerous” seismic zone.

In January 2001, a massive earthquake hit the region killing 13,800 people and injuring another 1.67 lakh.
