Like many of you, I still feel disturbed by the destructive works of nature.

It seems somewhat common to refer to disasters in nature as “works of God”. Some even designate “seasons” for nature’s destructive works. God may be “to blame” because some people do not know why it happened.

First, I hope we can eliminate the belief that God causes such violent harm to innocent people. Did God who created it and loved its creation destroy it?

Let’s look first at the lot God has to offer, then think about a solution to such devastating weather damage.

Jesus spoke of God as good. The violent storms have calmed (see Mark 4: 35-41), and he looked at mercy while healing many ailments, among other notable expressions of God’s love.

We read in the Bible: “And there are many other things that Jesus did, which, if each one should be written, I suppose that even the world itself cannot contain the books to be written …” (John 21:25).

This insight from the Gospel of John embodies Jesus’ expression of God’s love: “Do not fear a small herd, because your father is pleased to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32).

In Habakkuk, we read about God, “You are more pure eyes than looking at evil …” (1:13).

In Elijah’s experience during the destructive force of nature “… the Lord was not in the wind: after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake: After the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire: And after the fire a small voice” (1 Kings 19: 11-12).

Somehow, we still expect to “anticipate” these cruel acts of nature. Could this fear of a recurrence of natural disasters be the cause of their occurrence?

Together with some of you, my suggestion to find a solution to these destructive air forces deployed is prayer.

Jesus declared, “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believers, you will receive” (Matthew 22:21). Please join me in devoting each day’s time to a calm belief – and a profound faith – by asking God to protect him and his safety from such terrible activity on humanity.

I believe that our prayers for protection from natural disasters will reduce these forces to the creation of God whom He loves so much.
