California earthquake shakes San Francisco Bay area, causing minor damage

Two earthquakes hit Santa Rosa, California, causing minor damage Tuesday night. There were no major damages or injuries, but the earthquake was felt all over the Bay Area.

Earthquake n and aftershocks caused minor damage in the Northern California community and were felt throughout the densely populated Bay Area on Tuesday night.

A 4.4-magnitude earthquake and a 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck just after 6:30 p.m. local time and had its epicenter in Santa Rosa, California, about 50 miles north of San Francisco along the Rodgers Creek fault line, which is part of the San Andreas Fault System.

P hotos from Santa Rosa showed items that fell off shelves, cracked walls, and other minor damage. The Santa Rosa Fire Department said it had to respond to some reports of the gas leak, but no one was hurt.

Well-known seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones said that the fault line where the earthquake occurred has not had a major earthquake since the 18th century. The last moderate earthquake occurred on the fault near Santa Rosa when a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck in October 1969.

The California Earthquake Early Warning System sent alerts to people in San Francisco more than 18 seconds before the earthquake.
