A man was found after 17 days lost in the Chinese mountains after the earthquake

A man lost in steep, rugged mountains after a devastating earthquake that killed 93 people in China has been rescued 17 days later.

A 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit Sichuan Province on September 5, and most of the devastation was concentrated in the province’s Ganzi Tibet Autonomous Region.

The state-owned China National Radio reported that Gan Yu was helping his injured colleagues at the Wandong Hydropower Station where he was working, but in the midst of the accident, he lost his glasses leaving him unable to escape from the mountainous terrain.

Gan and his colleague Luo Yong tried to leave the factory by walking 20 kilometers in the mountains, but they could not navigate the rough and steep terrain.

Emergency services were scouring the mountains for survivors after the earthquake, but Gan Luo was never found despite their best efforts.

“We took off our clothes, hung them on tree branches and waved them around,” Luo said.

Lu eventually went to look for help and left Gan in a temporary shelter. Lu was found on September 8 but rescuers were unable to find Jean.

Emergency services found Gann’s shelter and assumed he was dead.

17 days later, Gann was found alive but wounded by a local villager who heard his screams.

He was taken to the hospital where he was treated for broken bones.
