United Nations Population Fund Syria Case Report No. 6: Turkey and Syria Earthquake – March 11, 2023 – Syrian Arab Republic

More than a month has passed since a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Syria and Turkey on February 6, affecting the provinces of Idlib, Aleppo, Latakia and Hama. Another 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck on February 20, resulting in additional damage and shocks to the affected communities. Before the earthquake, there were 15.3 million people in need of humanitarian assistance across the country.

Frequent earthquakes also confirm the extreme vulnerability and dangers in these hard-hit areas. Aid workers and organizations have also been affected by the losses on many levels, which has affected their operational capabilities. While the number of casualties is growing every day, more than 5,900 deaths have been reported across Syria as of February 12, the majority of them (over 4,500) recorded in the northwest of the country. More than 12,000 injured have also been reported.

Damaged healthcare facilities have led to a shortage of basic life-saving care services. Increased referral times to functioning hospitals and reduced ability of trained providers to access care for both normal and urgent deliveries have affected and increased the risks of preventable maternal morbidity and mortality. This contributes to increased morbidity and mortality rates, as well as psychological and mental health distress.

Despite the breadth of needs and the scale of suffering caused by this tragedy, UNFPA remains committed to exercising its duty of care towards all its staff and partners in Syria. In addition to adopting strict protocols to ensure the physical safety of all staff, UNFPA and its partners are working to ensure that resources and services are available to protect the psychological well-being of all individuals involved in the response.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
