Power, Eileen Cooper Obituary

Eileen married her high school sweetheart, J Morley Cooper (Coop), on the evening of June 23, 1942. After they married a seaman, they lived on naval bases on both coasts during World War 2, and ended in Norfolk, Virginia, where the first son, Morley was born. After the war, they returned to Helena where her daughter Karen and her son Jerry were born. Together as a family, Coopers enjoyed camping, RV travel and years of exceptional weekends at their unique getaway in New York.

Eileen was a leader in all of her children’s activities, including 4H, Girl’s Scout, and Boy’s Boy Scout, and she and Cup never missed an event in which none of her children participated. She and Cup began Helena’s first square dance meeting and made unforgettable friendships introducing people to the art and pleasure of square dance.

Eileen was helpful in forming Jayceens in Helena and served as her first president. She worked as Secretary of the Committee for two legislative sessions. Her most interesting and enjoyable work was with Phillips Dairy and Philips Clover Leaf Dairy to welcome new arrivals to Helena and supervise retail delivery methods.

She participated in the first Presbyterian Church, the East Star, and was a rented member of the Little Red Schoolhouse, where she worked as treasurer for 25 years. Her most rewarding experience was her participation in PEO, an organization that supported increased women’s education. Most recently she was introduced to the daughters of the American Revolution in 2019.
