The Victorian town of Foster was hit by a 2.8-magnitude earthquake Monday night

A 2.8-magnitude earthquake struck southeastern Victoria on Monday night – the second quake recorded in the state in just over a week.

The quake occurred at 8.29pm with its epicenter near Foster, a pastoral town about 170km southeast of Melbourne.

It had a magnitude of 2.8 and a depth of 7 kilometers.

Geoscience Australia reported that as of Tuesday morning, seven people had reported feeling the earthquake.

Just over a week ago, Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula was hit by a magnitude 2.3 earthquake on Saturday afternoon.

More than 100 people across the region reported the earthquake.

A few days before that, Melbourne was rocked by a magnitude 3.8 earthquake.

Melbourne residents flocked to social media in the aftermath of the earthquake, sharing their disbelief at what happened.

“Wtf there was only an earthquake in Melbourne?????” one person wrote on Twitter.

“Are we supposed to go back to sleep like this was nothing?” wrote another.
