An earthquake shook communities in central California on Tuesday, according to the USGS. The USGS said the 4.0 magnitude quake struck seven miles northwest of Avenal at about 5:45 p.m. The vibration alert system was estimating the magnitude of the quake below and no cell phone alerts were sent for the 4.5-magnitude quake, officials said. This is not the first earthquake to hit California on Tuesday. A 3.5 magnitude earthquake also shook Ontario just before 1 p.m. Do you have photos or video of the incident? An earthquake shook communities in central California on Tuesday, according to the US Geological Survey.

The USGS said the 4.0 magnitude quake struck seven miles northwest of Avenal at about 5:45 p.m.

Because the vibration alert system estimated the quake's magnitude to be less than 4.5, it did not send cell phone alerts about the quake, officials said.

It's not the first earthquake to hit California on Tuesday. A 3.5-magnitude earthquake also shook Ontario shortly before 1 p.m
