Our investigation began with a reverse image search of key frames from the viral video, which led us to an LA Times report featuring the same video. Reports that the video dates back to August 2023 and depicts a mass robbery in Los Angeles.

Going forward, we watched the same video on FOX 26 News as well. It was uploaded on August 15, 2023 with the caption “Los Angeles area stores targeted in burglaries and theft.”

The description part states, “A series of random mob robberies is sweeping Southern California. Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise has been looted during these daytime raids.”

This indicates that this video predates the earthquake and is not related to recent events.

We also came across a CBS report dated August 14, 2023. The report states that the incident occurred on August 12, 2023. According to the police, a group of 20 to 30 individuals stole bags, clothes, shoes, and other items worth about $300,000. .

Another report indicates that a group of at least 50 thieves staged a daring robbery at a Nordstrom department store in Los Angeles.
