A new earthquake leaked near the Andrbanov Islands

As of today, March 21, 2025, there were eight earthquakes larger than 5 in two days in the Andrbanov Islands area in the Western Air Series (Figure 1). With no unique shock, we can be called confidently this earthquake swarm. No tangible reports were submitted online, but ADak residents said they were shaking.

The Alaska earthquake center has previously covered swarms, the last of which was in December 2024 when it shook three earthquakes above 6 size 6 and its final shake the Adak region (Figure 2). This swarm follows the same general behavior: a series of earthquakes in the same place with no clear event.

Since the biggest event in a swarm sequence does not direct the number of events that will be there in general, there is nothing special about the biggest event (Figure 3). In this case, it was now 6.2, at about 7 am on March 21, at a depth of about 18 miles (29 km).

Why did the swarms of the earthquake occur, and why in this part of Alaska?

Depending on the geological preparation of the earthquake swarm, the trigger can slide on a mistake, or magma injections or another type of fluid. In this case, given the large size of the earthquakes and its location on the borders of a major plate, we can call it a tecton squadron.

The Alton sits on the border between the Pacific panels and North America, and the depth distribution of earthquakes indicates that they are taking place along the interface between these paintings. The earthquake mechanisms, which also represent the rift, indicate the converging movement along the boundaries of the plate (Figure 2).
