Former Deputy Prime Minister Ivana Klempush-Tsintsadze told Politico she was still unsure whether the drama would change the way Zelensky governs. She said: “This is exactly the question. The method of governance must return to the constitution. Parliament must regain its authority.”

She added: “This means that the president must agree to talk to all factions, and we must reconsider the relationship in Parliament and form a true national unity government, which will be accountable to Parliament, not the presidential office.”

Yulia Mendel, a Ukrainian journalist and former Zelensky adviser turned critic, told Politico that Yermak's resignation was a “desperate reaction to unbearable pressure.”

She added: “Zelensky has no real alternative ready because he never thought things would come to this point. But the heat got so intense that it came down to the simplest choice: him or Yermak. And Zelensky chose himself.”

But Mendel has some doubts that things will really change much. “Yermak may remain merely a shadow puppeteer,” she warned.
