In 2023, Giulia Tramontano was murdered by her partner in Milan, Italy. She was seven months pregnant when she died. 137 women and girls around the world are killed every day by a partner or family member. This is according to the latest data from the United Nations. In a bid to combat violence against women, Italy has become the latest country to pass a specific law on the killing of a woman because of her gender. Last month, the Italian parliament voted unanimously to include the term “femicide” in the country's legal code.
