A 6.7-magnitude earthquake shook northeastern Japan and caused small tsunami waves without causing apparent damage on Friday, days after a stronger earthquake in the same area.
Friday's earthquake occurred off the eastern coast of Aomori Prefecture, north of Honshu, the main Japanese island, at a depth of 20 kilometers at 11:44 a.m. local time, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, which issued a tsunami warning and was lifted about two hours later.
Small waves were reported in Hokkaido and Aomori Prefectures, but no serious damage or injuries were reported.
Friday's quake followed a 7.5-magnitude earthquake earlier this week in the north that caused casualties, minor damage and a tsunami in coastal communities on the Pacific Ocean.
At least 34 people were injured in the earthquake that occurred on Monday off the coast of Aomori, the northernmost island of Honshu. A tsunami of more than 0.6 meters above tide levels was measured at Koji Port in Iwate Prefecture before all tsunami warnings were lifted. Power was cut off in hundreds of homes, but most of them were restored on Tuesday morning.
The authorities warned of possible aftershocks.
After Monday's quake, there is a slight increase in the risk of a magnitude 8 earthquake and possible tsunami along Japan's northeastern coast from Chiba, east of Tokyo, to Hokkaido, officials said.
The JMA urged residents in the region's 182 municipalities to monitor their emergency preparedness next week, reminding them that caution is not a prediction of a major earthquake.
The earthquakes occurred in the coastal region, where a 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami in 2011 killed nearly 20,000 people and destroyed the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless.
