Area 51 is hit by a series of unusual earthquakes as stories of UFO detections intensify

A cluster of earthquakes near Area 51 has reignited speculation surrounding secret underground testing, the detection of UFOs, and the US government’s long history of mystery surrounding the secret military base.

More than 17 earthquakes struck near Area 51 within a 24-hour period, the Daily Mail reports. The stronger quake measured 4.4 and struck at a shallow depth of about 2.5 miles underground, sparking immediate online speculation linked to the base’s secretive reputation.

Geophysicist Stefan Burns said the site itself raised eyebrows.

“This is an unusual place for an earthquake to occur,” Burns said, noting that the area has historically remained quieter than other fault-frequent areas throughout the western United States.

Burns also noted that the shallow depth of the earthquake is particularly important.

“Earthquakes and underground explosions can sometimes produce similar seismic signals,” he said.

The theory quickly spread across social media, with some users publicly wondering whether the seismic activity was linked to secret underground testing near the notorious Nevada facility.

Burns said the seismic data carried “some ambiguity” and described the event as “worth discussing in the context of whether this was a secret underground nuclear test.”

The renewed interest in the Nevada earthquake swarm comes as stories of UFO detections continue to dominate headlines across government, media, and entertainment. Congressional hearings, Pentagon reports, whistleblower allegations, and military footage have pushed the topic from conspiracy theory into mainstream everyday discussion.
