US fighter jets attack Iranian oil tanker as Trump claims peace deal closed | BBC News

A US warplane has fired on an Iranian oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman. The US military said the ship was trying to break the US blockade of Iranian ports. The attacks are the latest threat to a four-week ceasefire between the two countries. President Trump has threatened a new wave of bombings against Iran if a deal is not reached to open the Strait of Hormuz, the main shipping lane that carries a fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas supplies. Trump also suggested that the war would end soon and that oil and gas shipments would resume. He reiterated that Iran was ready to strike a deal to end the conflict. Israel has renewed its bombing of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. Iran has previously said that no deal will be reached as long as Israel continues its attacks on Lebanon.
