MEDIA ALERT: WCK expands earthquake response across Venezuela as death toll and displacement rise

Caracas, Venezuela – Five days after the deadly earthquakes of June 24, and with the death toll and displacement continuing to rise, World Central Kitchen (WCK) is expanding its emergency response across the states of Miranda (Caracas), La Guaira, and Carabobo. Working alongside 19 local restaurants and community partners, WCK has already provided thousands of fresh meals to families affected by the disaster.

Within hours of the earthquake, WCK activated our long-standing network of local restaurant partners, suppliers, volunteers and community organizations to deliver meals where they were needed most.

The initial phase of the response focused on distributing ready-made meals while teams conducted rapid assessments. As needs became more apparent, WCK expanded its operations to support displaced families in earthquake-affected neighborhoods, hospitals, shelters and community centers throughout the region.

WCK’s long-standing presence in Venezuela enabled our team to respond immediately. Since 2019, WCK has supported communities across the country, including Hurricane Julia in 2022 and Hurricane Beryl in Sucre in 2024. These trusted relationships, local knowledge and operational networks serve as the foundation of the response today.

Damaged homes and infrastructure have increased pressure on communities already facing long-standing social and economic challenges, making locally-led rapid response efforts even more important.

Working alongside 19 local restaurants and community partners, WCK prepares fresh, culturally familiar meals as close to affected communities as possible – supporting local businesses while ensuring families get food quickly and with dignity.

To meet growing needs, WCK is expanding daily meal production, deploying food trucks to enhance coverage across affected communities, and establishing an operational center near Naiguata to improve meal preparation, storage and logistics near affected families. The expected arrival of the bakery truck will increase production capacity and support operations throughout the region.
