Belarusian exiled leader breaks silence: first interview with Svetlana Tikhanovskaya – BBC News

Svetlana Tikhanovskaya was the President of Belarus. Alexander Lukashenko had to flee the country after declaring a landslide victory, even though many believe he won the election. In his first interview out of exile, the opposition leader told the BBC that he did not see himself as president, as a symbol of freedom and change. Protesters are urging them to move forward, saying that if they back down now they would become “slaves” to the regime. He spoke to BBC correspondent Jean Mackenzie a month before their first meeting for the Belarusian elections. Filmed and edited by Andy Smith. Subscribe HERE .
