Spain’s death toll from coronavirus surpasses the official Chinese figure, becoming the second highest in the world.

Deaths rose by 738 in 24 hours, to a total of 3,434, a record for Spain.

By comparison, China has officially been 3,285 dead, and Italy, the worst-affected country, has 6,820.

Later, the Spanish prime minister extended the state of emergency to the country for another two weeks.

Attorneys are expected to stay until April 11 to request a blockade by Pedro Sánchez. According to the rules, people are not allowed to move out of their homes to buy essential supplies and medicines or to work.
