Stuntman Ernie F. Orsatti, known for dropping 30 feet through a glass window, died in the 1972 movie “The Poseidon Adventure”. He was 80 years old.

The Stunt Players Directory Facebook page confirmed his death, writing: “We are saddened to hear the death of legendary stuntman Ernie Orsati. His impeccable work and contributions to the movement community will live forever.” His son, Noon Orsati, told The Hollywood Reporter that his father died on September 12 in La Quinta, California, after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke.

Orsatti got his start as a stuntman while starring in the disaster film “The Poseidon Adventure” in 1972 as Terry, the history of Pamela Sue Martin’s character. The day before Adventure was due to be scheduled, the film’s producer, Erwin Allen, told Orsati that he would perform it, even though he had no experience in the field. However, after consulting with the movie’s stunt co-ordinator, he decided to take the gripping downfall – and was hooked.

Orsatti went on to amass 140 stunt credits, including in the 1981 test movie Hill Street Blues, three “Death Wish,” “I’m Gonna Get You Sucka,” “Alien: Resurrection,” and “NYPD Blue” And “Charming,“ Cheaper By the Dusine, ”“ Closer, ”“ Nip / Tuck, ”“ Entourage, ”“ It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, ”and“ Big Love. ”His last credits as stunt coordinator for the 2010 movie“ Furry Vengeance ”starring Brendan Fraser.

Orsatti was no stranger to show business. Born in Beverly Hills on February 13, 1940 to Anez Gorman, opera singer, and Ernie R. Orsati, defender and first policeman for the St. Louis Cardinals. His uncle, Victor Orsatti, was a famously talented agent like Judy Garland, Betty Grabble, and Edward J. Robinson, and his brother Frank Orsatti was also a businessman.

Before mostly sticking to stunts, Orsati had a brief acting career, with small roles in 1968 “Green Hats” with John Wayne, “The Mechanic” in 1972 and shows like “Mannix” and “The Incredible Hulk”.

Several members of the Orsati family followed in his footsteps as stunt actors, including Nun, his half-brother Rex Pearson, and his grandson Robbie.

Orsati survived his wife, Linda, Nunn, Pearson; Grandchildren Ruby and Allie, and their grandchildren Ria and Mira.
