Official accompanying event of the UN General Assembly: Progress and multisectoral action towards achieving global goals to stop TB

Nearly 5,000 people joined the official accompanying event of the UN General Assembly: “Progress and multisectoral action towards achieving global goals to stop TB”, organized on September 23 by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Russian Federation. Held on the sidelines of the 75th UN General Assembly (UNGA), the event brought together a distinguished lineup of speakers that included WHO and UN leadership, health ministers, partners and civil society.

The accompanying event marked two years since the UN high-level meeting on tuberculosis, which resulted in a political statement by heads of state to speed up the response to tuberculosis. The declaration contained a request to the UN Secretary-General for a report on progress in achieving the goals and implementation of the UN Political Declaration on TB for 2020. This report was the focus of UNGA 2020 – discussions focused on the collective action needed to implement the recommendations set out in the report to improve multisectoral action and accelerate progress towards the end of TB. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on progress toward stopping TB was also in the spotlight.

The accompanying UNGA event was opened by WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhan Ghebreyesus and the Honored Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Dr. Mikhail Murashko. UN Deputy Secretary-General Ms. Amina Mohammed delivered the keynote address. Ms. Blessina Kumar, a member of the WHO Working Group on TB and Executive Director of the GCTA, passionately called for greater investment, accountability and research to stop TB, especially in the event of a COVID-19 crisis.

A brief overview of the progress report for 2020 was presented to the General Assembly by Dr. Tereza Kasaeva, Director of the WHO Global Program for TB, who also moderated the event. The report focuses on efforts to achieve the 2022 targets in a UN political declaration at a high-level meeting on TB. Overall, the report shows that high-level commitments and targets have spurred global and national progress in stopping TB, but that urgent and more ambitious investments and actions are needed, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. 10 priority recommendations have been made (see below) to focus the world on achieving the agreed targets by 2022 and thereafter and to reduce the huge human and social tax caused by TB. This was followed by an interactive panel discussion with key partners on their roles and contributions in maintaining and strengthening multisectoral action and progress in stopping TB, including in the context of the COVID-19 crisis. Keynote speakers involved, Dr. Peter Sands, Executive Director, Global Fund; Dr. Lucica Ditiu, CEO, Stop TB Partnership; Dr. Alma Golden, Assistant Administrator for Global Health, United States Agency for International Development (USAID); Dr. Philippe Duneton, CEO, UNITAID and The Rt Hon The Lord Nick Herbert of South Downs.

The accompanying UNGA event was closed by Dr. Ren Minghui, Assistant Director-General of the WHO, Universal Health Coverage / Infectious and Non-Communicable Diseases, with words of gratitude to the speakers and the audience. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
