3.6 magnitude earthquake strikes near Anguin | State and patriotism

A 3.6-magnitude earthquake was recorded west of Lake Perissa shortly before sunrise Monday morning, according to the US Geological Survey.

Tremors from the earthquake were felt as far away as Berkeley and Sunnyvale, as reported by community members who recorded responses on the US Geological Survey’s community density map.

Keith Knudsen, deputy director of the USGS Seismology Center in Menlo Park, said the early morning earthquake was “not unusual”, given that the area is between two active fault lines. Thousands of low-velocity tremors occur every year in the Napa region north of the Green Valley Rift.

“These little earthquakes remind us that we live in an earthquake country,” Knudsen said.

The geologist encouraged members of the public to record their experiences with earthquakes on the community density map by filling in “Did you feel it?” The survey.

Knudsen said that collision of these plates “occurs intermittently,” which is why Little Monday’s earthquake was only one of thousands of earthquakes likely to rock the Gulf this year.

Knudsen encouraged the people of the Gulf to plan ahead when disaster strikes.
