Thailand’s lese-majesté law, which bans insult to the monarchy, is one of the strictest in the world. The student-led protest movement over the past five months has begun to demand reform of the monarchy and an end to military coups, of which Thailand has had twenty in modern times. Demonstrations sent shockwaves from a country taught from birth to worship and love the monarchy and fear the consequences of talking about it.
