Germany begins Christmas shutdown amid Covid storm – BBC News
Over the course of Christmas, Germany will introduce a severe blockade, as the number of deaths and infections caused by the virus has risen in recent weeks. Non-essential stores and schools will be closed nationwide from December 16 to January 10. Chancellor Angela Merkel has blamed Christmas shopping for a “decent” rise in social relations. Currently a maximum of five people from both homes are allowed to gather at home. But that limit will be relaxed from Dec. 24 to 26, as one family will be able to take up to four families from other families. Children under the age of 14 are not included in this limit.
