The Brexit trade deal was finally agreed – BBC News

A post-Brexit trade deal has finally been agreed, four and a half years before the UK voted to leave the European Union. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said he would protect jobs and provide business security. After months of huge talks and last-minute discussions about fishing, negotiators reached an agreement on Christmas Eve, a week before the deadline for the UK’s transition period. European Commission President Ursula Von de Leyen said the agreement was good and fair. Some employers have said the deal has been “extremely calm”. However, others – along with some British politicians – said they would wait to see the details of the deal before ruling on it. Sophie Raworth has presented BBC News featuring political editor Laura Kuenssberg, European editor Katya Adler, business editor Simon Jack, deputy political editor Vicki Young, Glasgow’s James Cook, Cardiff’s Tomos Morgan and Belfast’s Emma Vardy.
