Early morning earthquake swarm of rocks in the Salinas Valley near Gonzales – CBS San Francisco

A swarm of five earthquakes measuring 4.3 to 2.5 degrees hit a rapid fire early Saturday morning near Gonzales, according to the US Geological Survey.

The United States Geological Survey reported a 3.2-magnitude earthquake at 6:36 a.m. and followed by 4.3 at 6:42 a.m., 2.5 at 7:02 a.m., 2.6 at 7:08 a.m. and 2.7 at 7:41 a.m.

The epicenter of the earthquakes was in the Gabelan mountain range near the Pinnacles National Park, several miles northeast of Gonzales. There were no immediate reports on the extent of the damage.

The swarm felt in southern San Jose, Salinas, Carmel, Monterrey, Hollister and other communities in northern San Benito County.

Locals have taken to social media, and reported that they were shocked.

John Phillips was in downtown San Jose when the swarm struck.

“I felt it here in downtown San Jose. I was lying in my bed getting the news, etc., on my phone.” “It wasn’t strong, but it was definitely noticeable because I was awake and still lying down.”

Libby Patterson was in Davenport on the coast.

She wrote on Twitter “Very shaky here!”

She wrote, “I definitely felt in Marina – woke me up.” “It was the biggest feeling I remember since LP (1989 Loma Prieta earthquake). I got rock ‘n’ roll quality for several seconds. My animals were on high alert too.”

I wrote “moderate tremor”. Good vibration but louder than I expected for the vibration level. (The windows were open to hear the ocean).
