The volcano continues to show beautiful and sometimes stunning Strombolian activity from both the new SE crater and the central Foragen Crater. Over the past day, the latter was much more intense, while today, activity appears to be focused on the main hole of the new SE crater, formerly known as the “saddle hole”, which is now a half-open deep crater on its SE side due to the dramatic changes during the recent bouts. This is well visible in the attached Domenico Mazzaglia photo (source on facebook). Incandescent lava bombs are fired at altitudes of 100-200 meters and often land on the outer slopes of the crater. Earthquake activity is currently down and volcanic tremor levels do not show any significant differences. However, this can change quickly.
