155 container houses and 19 tents were erected in the earthquake zone

Zagreb, January 7 (HINA) – Speaking as chair of the task force dealing with the effects of the December 29 earthquake in Sisak Moslavina County, Deputy Prime Minister Tomo Medved said Thursday that 155 container houses and 19 tents are in the area to house earthquake victims.

Since the formation of the task force, our response teams have implemented a number of activities on the ground. The Civil Protection Directorate has built 155 container homes and 19 tents, provided emergency services with 32,000 liters of fuel, visited 95 communities and provided humanitarian aid, ”Medved said at a cabinet meeting.

He said that a series of meetings had been held with local government officials to analyze the situation, set priorities and provide further assistance in repairing the damage. He added that about 600 firefighters and 200 fire engines have been deployed in the area to help search and rescue efforts, remove damaged chimneys, repair roofs and secure destroyed buildings.

Medved said the task force has set up an operations center that includes the Civil Protection Directorate, the Fire Service, the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS), the Croatian Red Cross, the army and the police, adding that they are operating. 24 hours a day.

Medved said a total of 262 HGSS employees are on site with 61 vehicles, providing food, water, medicine, heaters and other necessities to remote villages and families, while the UNHCR is caring for 725 people in eight sites.

He said preparations are underway to receive 100 container houses from Turkey, which were expected to arrive later today.
