T-shirt campaign launched for the Petringa Wind Orchestra

January 10, 2021 – A T-shirt campaign for GLG Petrinja (Petrinja Wind Orchestra) is launched to raise enough funds to repair the damage the foundation suffered from the devastating earthquake of December 29, 2020.

Earthquake does not ask which building will be demolished; Family homes, office buildings, hospitals … it doesn’t matter. It destroys everything in its path. Petringa – a city, a home and a place for many beautiful things that are now lost due to this earthquake (but not forever). The list of buildings that are now in ruins is very long. The home of the “GLG Petrinja” wind orchestra can be found on this list. Unfortunately, the working conditions weren’t great, but we never gave up. We were glad we had a place where we could be creative and please others with our music. Although they weren’t at their best, these walls were everything we had: a place of laughter, happiness, mirth, a place to make friends, cool rehearsals, celebrations, gatherings … everything! Between these walls you can find a different way of life. Life not everyone gets a chance to experience. We feel so sad that this place was the home of us and many other members who grew up within those walls. This building is now useless. The orchestra lost its home. This family of many children has lost everything … the music hasn’t completely given up yet, but it’s just a matter of time. Of all of you who know how and when to make orchestral music, and the music created by “GLG Petrinja”, please help us in any way possible. Together we can regain a little of the beauty that makes Petringa known. Help us restore the smiles that our music has brought on the faces of our citizens. The pure hearts of Croatians sparkle widely in times of crisis, which we saw displayed in the aftermath of the Pterenga earthquake. While several donation channels have opened in the past two weeks, Petrinja’s musicians have started a new T-shirt campaign to help repair the damage to GLG Petrinja’s building.

Specifically, GLG Petrinja was founded in 1808, and is one of the oldest wind orchestras in Croatia. Currently there are over 60 active members, and many of the Patringa citizens have played in the orchestra at some point. Current GLG Petrinja captain is Josip Kapović of Metkovi, a Tuba player in the Croatian Armed Forces Division.

TCN spoke to one of the campaign organizers and GLG Petrinja member, Iva Petrači, about how the idea and design came about.

“My friend Furban suggested that we make the shirts when he called me after the earthquake. I came up with the design with a few other people who helped me. A friend offered to help with graphic design, and now the shirt is here. All support from my orchestra and we really hope this will spread and buy Shirt people, “said Buttercic.

Besides the design, the shirt reads “Vratimo glazbu tamo gdje pripada” (returning the music where it belongs) with a reflection of the time and date of the earthquake.

Each T-shirt costs 100 kuna, and all proceeds will go directly to GLG Petrinja.
