The UK is closing all travel corridors as fears of new variants of coronavirus are growing. Anyone arriving in the UK must submit a negative test and be isolated for up to 10 days. When Boris Johnson asked people to stay home – there was extra pressure with UK hospitals. 37,000 people are being treated in hospital for coronavirus, most of them in unexpected places for 10 days. A quarter of patients are under 55 years of age. Hospitals in Nottingham and Newcastle, among others, are preparing to admit intensive care patients from London to try to relieve pressure in the most severe places.
